VoIP 911 Bill Approved
The VoIP E911 Bill has been approved by the Senate Committee this week. This 911 bill stands to cover the same provisions for emergency calls as for traditional mobile wireless providers.
At a Senate Commerce Comittee last month, the VoIP 911 Bill was discussed. Said bill would accomplsih codifying the FCC’s order that requires VoIP providers to include E911 service with their regulr products and services, at a level similar to that of commercial wireless carriers.
The VoIP 911 Bill would also give VoIP providers and public safety ansering points (PSAP) with the same liability protection that is afforded to traditional telephony carriers.
Also, the VoIP 911 Bill stands to ensure that VoIP providers have access to the main 911 network, and clarifies that state and local governments must collect 911 fees from said VoIP providers.
